Keep in mind that, within the paradigm, he appeared to people prior to his ascension. In both the Bible and Christian hagiographical tradition, following the ascension Jesus only appeared to those who were prepared for that vision (i.e. the saints). Even in the case of paul's conversion, he only saw a bright light - not the resurrected Jesus.
