Why are we tought trig and calculus when we never use them later on?

Why do High schools teach this? It's not like you'll be in a supermarket and be like " tow shopping carts are traveling towards each other. if one is going x mph faster than the other one and the wind is 3 mph and the other cart is going against at 5mph etc.." How is this practical in the real world? I haven't used trig since high school.
