Is secularism a mere eyewash? Or, does secularism is the best among the worst of such governing principles?

The term secularism is used for equal treatment of all religions. But today in India and some other countries it is used for special treatment of the minorities. This type of special treatment is particularly for gaining political benefits and there is no other reason behind this. God is one and anyone can worship the God in any way he follows and every religion is equal and no religion should be treated specially.
